Important Dates
Keep birthdays, anniversaries, and the dates that matter close, with a calm heads-up before each one.
Remember the dates that matter. Kinu gives you a calm heads-up before birthdays, anniversaries, and any other date you want to keep close, so you have time to reach out in your own way.
No countdowns, no red badges, no guilt. Just a quiet nudge in time to do something thoughtful.
How to add a date
Open the person's profile
Tap a person from your people grid to open their profile.
Tap "Add a date"
You'll land on a simple form.
Give it a title
The title is freeform. Call it whatever makes sense to you, like "Birthday", "Anniversary", or "Day we met".
Enter the date
Add the month and day. The year is optional, so a birthday where you don't know the year still works fine.
Choose whether to be reminded
The "Remind me" toggle is on by default. Leave it on for a gentle nudge before the day, or turn it off for dates you just want to keep on record.
Save
That's it. The date is saved to the person's profile.
You can add as many dates as you need for each person. There is no limit.
What to remember
Because the title is freeform, you decide what counts.
- Birthdays: the classic. Even a simple "happy birthday" text means more when it arrives on the right day.
- Anniversaries: relationship milestones, work anniversaries, or any recurring date worth noting.
- Any date that matters: "Day we met." "First road trip." "The day she got the promotion." Whatever is meaningful to you.
Some people have just a birthday. Others have five dates worth remembering. Both are perfectly fine.
Start with birthdays. They're the easiest to recall and the most appreciated. You can always add more dates later.
Gentle reminders
Kinu doesn't bombard you with notifications. When a date's reminder is on, you'll get one calm heads-up before it arrives, enough time to do something thoughtful, whether that's a call, a card, a text, or just holding them in your thoughts.
Reminders arrive at the single preferred time you set, and Kinu shifts them out of your quiet hours so nothing buzzes in the middle of the night. You can adjust your preferred time and quiet hours in Settings.
The goal isn't to create pressure. It's to make sure the people who matter don't slip through the cracks during a busy week.
Per-person Mode shapes how much Kinu reaches out. Someone set to low energy will surface dates and birthdays only, and a person set to paused stays quiet entirely. Date reminders follow these same calm rules.
Privacy
Important dates live on your device first. On the free plan they stay local to that device.
If you turn on sync with Kinu Plus, your dates are encrypted on your device before they're uploaded, and they stay encrypted in transit and at rest. We do not access your relationship content as part of running Kinu.
Analytics are pseudonymous. Kinu never records the specific dates you enter, the titles you give them, or any of the content you write. For the full picture, see how your data is stored.
What else to capture
Dates are one way to stay close. You might also want to record moments: small observations about people that come back when they matter most.
Adding moments
Capture the little things worth remembering about each person.
How sync works
Encrypted sync across your devices with Kinu Plus.
