Take the test

One of twenty-four shadings of the four friendship styles in Kinu's vocabulary: a badge from a short test, sharpened by the leaning your answers showed most clearly.

Easygoing has the best alibi of the six words: everyone can see what it does. The evening stays light, so everyone can attend it. The joke says the same thing sideways, so it costs nothing to answer. The company asks for no agenda, so tired people, anxious people, people deep in the worst month of their year can be in it without performing.

That is the work: lightness as the lowest possible threshold.

An Easygoing Opener sends the message that is easy to answer. An Easygoing Gatherer builds the table people can face when they cannot face a searching one. An Easygoing Harbour receives company, and company is enough. An Easygoing Hearth runs the room where tired people land.

Half of friendship is heavy enough on its own; somebody has to hold the other half open. The word appears when your answers sat clearly to the keeps-it-easy side of your own average, and it is a result, not an absence. Keeping it easy, for years, for everyone, is a practice, and some of the most necessary friendships in the world are the ones where nothing much is ever said, reliably, by design. Like the badge, the word reads your habits as a whole and pronounces on no single friendship; most people carry at least one that goes the other way, straight to the deep end.

The friend turns up with nothing to discuss, and that is the point. Three hours of half-watched football, a takeaway, conversation that never rises above the trivial and never needs to: they leave lighter than they came, and neither of you could say what happened, because what happened was you.

Easygoing strips the Harbour's receiving down to company itself. Where a Deep Harbour receives confessions, you receive presence: the friend who does not want to talk about it, just wants to not be alone with it, and knows your door is the one place that will not make them explain. Being stayed with, no agenda, no debrief, is one of friendship's most underrated services, and you supply it so naturally that its recipients rarely notice it was a gift until years later.

Your move is to make the standing offer sayable, once, plainly, to the people who matter: you never need a reason to come over. They half-know it already; hearing it removes the last barrier, which was never the door but the excuse. Some of the most important evenings of your friends' lives will look, from the outside, like absolutely nothing. Let them.
