What Happens If I Uninstall?
Your local data is removed, but your synced data is safe.
If you have Kinu Plus with sync enabled, your encrypted data is safely stored on our servers. Reinstall the app, sign in with the same account, and everything reappears -- just as you left it.
If you don't have sync, uninstalling or signing out removes your local data permanently.
Here's exactly what happens depending on your situation.
You have Kinu Plus (with sync)
You're fully protected. Your data has been encrypted and backed up to our server in the background.
- Reinstall Kinu from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in with the same account.
- Your data downloads, decrypts, and appears automatically.
Nothing is lost. Your people, moments, dates, notes, compass settings, and groups all come back.
Make sure you can still sign in to your account. Your synced data is tied to it, so if you permanently lose access to the account, your server backup can't be restored to you.
You have an account but no Plus subscription
Your account is preserved. You can still sign in after reinstalling. But because sync is a Plus feature, there's no server backup of your Kinu data. Your local data (people, moments, notes, etc.) is removed when you uninstall.
If you're thinking about uninstalling and want to protect your data, consider subscribing to Kinu Plus first and letting sync complete before you uninstall.
You're using Kinu as a guest (no account)
If you never created an account, your data exists only on your device. Uninstalling removes everything, and there's no way to recover it.
Before you uninstall: If you're a guest user, create an account first. This takes just a moment and means your account is preserved even if your local data isn't. Upgrading to Plus before uninstalling ensures your data is fully backed up.
What about signing out?
Signing out of your account also removes all local data from your device. This prevents data from one account leaking into another if someone else signs in on the same device.
- Kinu Plus users can sign back in and their data will sync down automatically.
- Free users will lose all local data permanently. Before signing out, use the export feature to save a copy.
When you tap "Sign out" on the free plan, Kinu will warn you and offer to export your data first.
