What Happens When I Cancel?
Cancelling Plus never deletes your data. Only sync, web access, and the people limit change.
Cancelling Kinu Plus does not delete anything. Every person, moment, voice note, and private note you have built stays right where it is, on your device, exactly as you left it. Cancelling only stops future charges and removes the extras that come with Plus.
You keep your plan until the period ends
When you cancel, you do not lose Plus right away. Your subscription stays active through the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep full Plus access until then. If you cancel on day 5 of a monthly cycle, you still have Plus through day 30. You simply will not be charged again after that.
Everything below describes what changes once that paid period ends, not the moment you tap cancel.
Bought Lifetime instead? Lifetime is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, so there is nothing to cancel and nothing to renew. Your access never expires. This page is about the Monthly and Annual subscriptions.
What stays the same
- All your data stays on your device. Every person, moment, voice note, important date, private note, lens, and Relational Compass setting remains exactly as it was.
- Your Kinu account stays active. You can keep signing in on your phone with Apple, Google, or your email and password.
- The app keeps working offline. Kinu is local-first, so your device is always the source of truth, with or without Plus.
Nothing is removed. Nothing is lost. Cancelling touches only the features that Plus unlocks.
What changes when Plus ends
Once your paid period is over, your account moves to the Free plan and three things change:
- Sync pauses. Your data stops syncing between devices. Changes you make on one device will not appear on another until you resubscribe. Your data is safe on each device the whole time. Read how sync works for the details.
- Web access locks. You will not be able to open Kinu in a browser at kinu.care until you resubscribe. The web app is a Plus benefit.
- The people limit returns to 10. The Free plan supports up to 10 people.
If you have more than 10 people
This is the part people worry about most, so here it is plainly. Your existing people are never deleted. If you have 25 people in Kinu when you cancel, all 25 stay. You can still open every one of them, edit their details, and add new moments.
The only limit is on adding more. You will not be able to add a new person until you are back under 10 or you resubscribe. Your circle is preserved in full. You just cannot grow it past the Free limit for now.
Your data is always yours. Kinu will never delete your people or moments because of a plan change. Moving to Free limits what you can add going forward, not what you already have.
If you run into the limit later, why can't I add more people? walks through what to expect.
How to cancel
Where you cancel depends on where you bought Plus.
- On iPhone or iPad: Apple manages the subscription. Cancel it in your Apple ID settings. See manage your subscription on iOS for the exact steps.
- On the web (kinu.care): manage and cancel your plan from your account on the web. See manage your subscription on the web.
Cancelling in the right place stops future charges and leaves all of your data untouched.
Resubscribing later
You can resubscribe anytime, and everything comes back:
- Sync resumes and your devices catch up on their own
- Web access at kinu.care unlocks again
- The people limit is lifted, so you can keep adding people
If you switch phones or reinstall before resubscribing, you do not need to buy again. Open Kinu, go to Settings, then Subscription, then Restore Purchases. The full walkthrough is in restore purchases.
It is as if you never left. You pick up right where you stopped.
Cancelling is not the same as deleting
Cancelling keeps your account and all your data. It only ends the subscription.
If you want to remove your account and everything tied to it instead, that is a separate, permanent action. You can do it in the app at Settings then Account then Delete Account, or from the public account deletion page. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. See deleting your account before you start.
